Big Bay Balloon Parade

CUB SCOUT PACK 928 joined the volunteers who helped with the Port of San Diego's "Big Bay Balloon Parade" on Monday, December 29, 2008. The parade, also known as the "Holiday Bowl Parade", features 22 giant balloon, from Clifford the Big Red Dog to Mr. Potato Head. Several marching bands and military and rescue vehicles also make up the procession. Pack 928 helped in carrying banners in the parade, along with several other Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts in the area.

Our scouts braved a chilly start, meeting at 7:30 am at Qualcomm Stadium to take the trolley ride to downtown. The sun was out, and the day quickly warmed as we waited for the parade to get underway.

We were represented by Andrew, Garrett, Jake, Luke, and Spencer. Luke's sister Pixie joined to make and even number so we could carry 3 banners. Everyone did great and we enjoyed seeing all the people lined up to watch the parade. Thank you to all who took the time to take part in this fun event!

Toy Drive for Children's Ward at Kaiser Hospital

On Thursday, December 18th, Webelos Den Leader, Alan Stevens, and Den 8 parent, Kim Woodruff, accompanied five Cub Scouts from Pack 928 to the Children's Ward at Kaiser Hospital on Zion Avenue, to deliver the toys our pack had collected in our 2008 toy drive.
The generous donations of the scouts and the families of Pack 928 brightened the spirits of the 17 young patients spending the Christmas season there. The boys and girls in the ward ranged in age from 2 months old to 22 years, and the boys had something appropriate for everyone. One seven year old little girl who chose a Polly Pocket set for her gift, called out to the other kids in the ward, " The Cub Scouts are here, the Cub Scouts are here!", as the boys left her room.
Our Cub Scouts were respectful and compassionate to all the children in the ward and expressed genuine concern for the children who appeared to be the most ill. It was a valuable experience for all involved.
The Cub Scouts who took the toys to the hospital were, Sam, Matthew, and Caleb, from the Webelos den, Kacey, who represented the Bear den, and Kean, from the Wolf den. Our Boy Scout representative and Webelos Den Chief, Albert Blatler, assisted the boys and their parents with the gift giving. Albert and his mother, Chris, who also accompanied the boys on their rounds, volunteer their time at the hospital.

THE PACK meeting was a lot of fun! Our scouts enjoyed a fun pine cone holiday craft, and the Dens had a spirited competition for the best "Den Yell". Thanks to all Dens and their scouts for a fun evening! And a special thank you to all who brought a toy for our Toy Drive. The children at Kaiser will be pleased!

Our December Pack Meeting is Monday, December 15th at 7 pm in the auditorium at Marvin Elementary. This is our last Pack meeting of 2008!
We will be celebrating the Holiday Lights and working on a craft for the holidays. There will be song, skit, and thoughtful reflection on the season as we say goodbye to 2008 and hello to 2009.

December - Holiday Lights

DECEMBER - theme for the month is "Holiday Lights". Time for the holiday season! Many will be celebrating in their own special way - whether it be Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or your own traditions. Lights have a special meaning to the holidays. We might celebrate with lights on the Christmas tree, lighting the candles in the Hanukkah menorah, or candles on the Kinara for Kwanzaa.
This is also a time to celebrate the spirit in Cub Scouting. Let you Cub Scout spirit shine bright during the holiday season and all year long!
